401k Limit 2002 Calculating Stock Return On Investment

The Best Stock to Own

Do you have a very best stock? A stock that brings you closer to retirement year in and year out? One like Kraft, formerly American Dairy Products, which -- as tracked back by Dr. Jeremy Siegel -- turned $1,000 into more than $2 million over 53 years with dividend reinvestment? In terms of returns, Kraft has quite literally been the very best stock of the past half-century.

I pay special attention to this stuff: My job is to find companies with that same magic that's made Kraft such a dynamite stock.

A repeatable fortune What's the secret of Kraft's phenomenal digits? Well-branded products that a lot of people use, for starters. While that may be the bulk of it, those products aren't its only source of juju. The rest comes from two magic words: dividend reinvestment.

Right selection is the key to get the best from MFs

Successful mutual fund investing requires a plan as well as the discipline to stick to that plan. MFs allow investors to allocate investment assets across different fund categories to achieve a variety of risk/reward objectives thereby reducing overall portfolio risk. In other words, the right way to benefit from MFs is to balance the risk as well as the potential to earn. For that, one needs to know the right meaning of risk. No wonder, identifying the right level of risk tolerance and the right schemes remains the most important factors in ensuring success from a mutual fund portfolio.

In other words, a decision to invest in a fund has to be well thought out one and not based on some immediate urge. The key, therefore, is to focus on the fund selection. If you are invested in a good fund from a fund house with a proven track record, most of your worries are taken care of.

Investors line up for India's real estate

NEW DELHI - India's real-estate boom keeps getting bigger. In the past few weeks, private investments in the sector amounting to US$50 billion have been announced.

This week, the country's biggest real-estate developer, DLF, inked a $20 billion deal with the largest privately held real-estate developer in the world, Al Nakheel of the United Arab Emirates, to build two townships in northern and western India.

"We have signed a 50:50 joint venture with Al Nakheel to develop

integrated townships with an investment of $20 billion," a DLF executive said on the sidelines of a conference of UAE and Indian officials, business and political leaders in New Delhi.

The companies will initially invest $5 billion each in the next three years to develop about 16,000 hectares, most probably in the states of Haryana (Gurgaon) and Maharashtra (between Pune and Mumbai).

Bonds reward risk despite bumps

Risk-takers again were rewarded in the bond market in the first three months of the year despite some midquarter jitters about the economy.

The on-again, off-again economic worries also served as a reminder to investors who have been sitting comfortably in money market mutual funds: If the Federal Reserve starts cutting short-term interest rates, your yields will drop, and other fixed-income investments might look more attractive.

For now, however, Fed rate cuts appear unlikely anytime soon. On Friday the government said the economy created a net 180,000 jobs in March, far exceeding expectations.

That may keep investors upbeat about the economy and keep their appetite strong for corporate junk bonds and other dicey securities.

Demand for those issues pushed up their prices in the three months ended March 30.

UK small caps remain lower at midday, Accident Exchange slumps on ...

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - UK small caps remained lower at midday, continuing to buck a buoyant mood in the wider market, as Accident Exchange kept its place as the biggest faller following a profit warning, dealers said.

At 11.48 am the FTSE Small Cap index was 1.7 points lower at 4,050.2, while the FTSE 100 was up 26.1 points to 6,423.4.

Leading the fallers was Accident Exchange Group, down 43 pct, or 76-1/2 pence, to 101, as the group cut its full-year outlook on lower-than-expected rental days and changes in rental day mix.

The AIM-listed car replacement company said it sees adjusted pretax profit below its expectations at about 18 mln stg, compared with 16.3 mln stg a year ago, and is considering several options including an equity fundraising.

Aligning investments

If this everyday piece of advice comes to mind when thinking about your investments, then you may already understand the importance of a diversified portfolio. But even the most carefully composed investment portfolios can get out of balance from time to time. To make sure your portfolio stays on track to helping you reach your goals, it's important to take the time regularly to rebalance your portfolio to make sure it's still in line with your investment objectives.

Some of the most common reasons your portfolio could get out of balance would involve a change in the ratio of the asset classes in your portfolio, or a change in the value of your various assets. Asset classes refer to the general types of investments that make up your overall investment mix: Stocks, bonds, cash, mutual funds and ETFs, to name a few.
